Vojtech Hýbl

Statement

My style is heavily influenced by vintage scientific posters: both aesthetic and educational. Finding inspiration everywhere I go, I illustrate rocks, minerals and other Earth science topics to make them accessible to everyone.

My paintings are a combination of careful observations and planning – alluding to the scientific method – and quick brushstrokes which show the unpredictability of the natural world. Through the paintings, Vojta hopes to create a sense of awe and appreciation for the lithosphere by uncovering the geological stories hidden in rocks and the landscapes they form.

The natural world is an endless source of inspiration. I love spending time outdoors and tuning into the landscape around me. I try to translate this feeling into my work and help everyone connect to nature by inspiring curiosity and learning.

Biography

Vojta Hýbl is a Czech-born self-taught artist and outdoor educator based near Falkirk. Coming from a geological background, he uses gouache to re-imagine often inaccessible scientific concepts as works of art.

I love finding creative ways to re-imagine scientific concepts to reveal the stories hidden in rocks and the landscapes that they form. In my practice, I weave together science with personal experiences.
